Although Apple is denying the rumors, it appears that Copland may arrive a little late to your desktop. One suggestion being bantered about would be to release the User Interface portions of Copland early and the new operating system's kernel late. ◊ Silly Quix, Macs are for Apple
Quix, a Swiss company with a six-engineer staff has successfully ported the Macintosh Operating System over
to PReP, IBM's standard platform for the current generation of PowerPC-based computers. The job took Quix less than six months while Apple estimated it could not be done in two years. Unfortunately for Quix, one of the main reasons Apple didn't want the port to exist is so that they could get some concessions as to the CHRP standard they are developing with IBM. Consequently, it looks doubtful that Apple will allow Quix to sell the port at all.
◊ QuickTime 2.1 Released ?!?

◊ Bungie to Release Marathon 2 Demo on Web Site
The Marathon 20/10 Scenario Pack has been canceled, but in its place Marathon 2 will show up soon. No one is quite sure of how soon. The Preview was released in August at MacWorld on schedule. Bungie also promised to release the actual four-level demo on their home page around the middle of August. It's still not available at press time. ◊ DayStar Digital Plans Multi-Processor Mac
The first multi-processor Mac-platform computer is slated for an October unveiling. DayStar plans to market the units at prices ranging between $15-25,000. Initially aimed at the high-end graphics and film markets, the machines will include four 132MHz 604 PowerPC processors, 32 Mb of RAM, and a 2 Gb hard drive.
